Watchcast publishes documentary case files in the true-crime space. Because the subject matter involves real harm, our editorial standards are stricter than entertainment defaults. This policy describes what we will and will not publish.
True-crime restraint policy
We treat victims and the accused with restraint and dignity. We do not publish gore, do not sensationalise suffering, and do not use shock or "you won't believe" framing. We do not claim to solve, reopen, or affect any real open investigation. Where a case touches living people, we favour the documented record over speculation.
Prohibited content
- Graphic gore, or material that exists primarily to shock rather than inform.
- Content that harasses, defames, or exposes private individuals without justification.
- Material that identifies victims of sexual offences where the law or basic dignity requires otherwise.
- Hate speech, incitement, or content glorifying perpetrators.
- Content that infringes copyright or lacks the rights needed to publish (see DMCA).
Rights clearance for documentary cases
Every case in the catalog is presented under a license or with rights cleared for documentary use. Filmmakers who submit work must confirm they hold or have cleared the necessary rights to footage, recordings, and other materials. We review submissions for sourcing and rights before any case is considered for the ranking. Every filmmaker is credited.
Accuracy & sourcing
Cases are ranked in part on the quality of their sourcing. Where a case presents a reconstruction or an open question, we present it as such rather than as a settled finding. The cases in our catalog are documentary works and editorial selections, not breaking allegations.
AI disclosure
We do not present AI-generated footage as authentic evidence. If any visual reconstruction, narration, or illustrative element in a case is AI-assisted, it is labelled as a reconstruction within the work. Editorial ranking decisions are made by our human curation team.
